What Sets Us Apart
Unlike a night dive cruising along the reef with a torch, blackwater focuses on finding unique creatures in the water column attracted from the deep by high-powered light sources that simulate the moon.
We drop these light sources on a downline over deep water and wait for creatures to be attracted to the lights.
As you hover in the dark open ocean, you’ll witness an incredible parade of marine life rising from the depths—larval fish, squid, octopus, jellyfish, and other rarely seen deep-sea species. Each dive is completely different, offering a truly surreal and unforgettable experience that feels like floating in outer space, surrounded by glowing and mysterious creatures.
Requirements & Guidelines
Blackwater Divers do not use a “tether system” and free drift in the open ocean at night.
Divers must possess an Advanced Diver certification from a recognized agency with no less than 50 logged dives and hold valid DAN or other diving accident insurance.
All interested divers must be approved by the dive shop prior to Blackwater diving and prove to have good buoyancy practices.
Experience our Blackwater Dive, departing in the evening from downtown. This trip requires a minimum of 4 divers to proceed and is always weather-dependent.
Our Blackwater dives are $120 USD per person,
plus 16% IVA tax AND $14 USD Marine park per day.
